Black Stars Forever!
Ghana Black Stars…Oseiye!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can honestly say that I became a professional soccer fan/critic this summer. I mean can you blame me? With the World Cup held every four years and the national pride beaming out of each and every soccer fan, I would be lying if I said I was not affected by the soccer craze that erupted this past summer.
Which leads me to my main reason for writing this article…..Yeah, yeah, yeah, you already know this article is about Ghana’s Infamous Black Stars. Almost two months after that devastating match some Black Star supporters are still on the bitter side of life about everything that took place in that game.
Indeed it was trifling for number 9 Luis Saurez on Uruguay’s team to block what could have been Ghana’s winning goal in the semi finals. I was disappointing to see Asamoah Gyan miss that penalty kick after the previous red card for Uruguay. It was mind boggling to watch Richard Kingston to allow those balls in Ghana’s net, and it was extremely heart wrenching to see some of the Ghanaian soccer players shed tears that they and every Black Star fan wanted to be tears of joy.
At the same time it was also very warming to see other Black Star players comfort their fellow teammates. It it so easy to think about the “What if’s, the “Should Haves” and the “Could Haves”, but we cannot look back and meditate on the regrets. We should focus our energy on the positive accomplishments that the wonderful Black Star team achieved. For instance Gyan broke the record for scoring the most goals for an African country in the World Cup, he was nominated to get the Gold Soccer Ball, and also very courageous to participate in the shoot out after missing the penalty shot that would have advanced Ghana to the finals.
Kingston also broke the record for being the only goal keeper to play in every World Cup match. I cannot help but to remember when the commentator stated that ”Ghana’s heart was broken, and the whole continent of Africa’s heart was broken”. And so what Mr. Commentator Man!!! Indeed it would’ve been a cruel exit for any soccer team, but let’s not forget that Ghana has done well and has inspired several individuals. Ghana was one of the youngest soccer teams in the World Cup which only means they have room for growth.
Perhaps it will be written in the stars for the Black Stars to return back to Ghana as World Cup Champions in World Cup 2014. I would be remiss if I did not end this article by chanting this…”Ghana Black Stars, Ghana Black Stars, Ghana Black Stars….
OSSSEIYEEEE!!!!
